It's nearly meaningless, but Famitsu gave Kid Icarus a 40/40.

Yeah, it's hard to put too much stock into Famitsu scores these days. But, out of all the perfect scores they've given, I'd only say two of them were actually bad games (Nintendogs and FF12), and one of those is just my fringe opinion.
I'm actually seeing commercials for KI:U now as well, which is nice. I'm glad Nintendo is putting some marketing muscle behind it.

Kid Icarus has an 'all-star' line-up of composers:
*Motoi Sakuraba: Tales of, Star Ocean, Valkyrie Profile, Baten Kaitos, Dark Souls, Golden Sun *Yuzo Koshiro: Streets of Rage, ActRaiser, Shinobi, Etrian Odyssey *Masafumi Takada: Killer7, No More Heroes, God Hand *Noriyuki Iwadare: Lunar, Grandia, Radiata Stories *Yasunori Mitsuda: Chrono Trigger/Cross, Xenogears, Shadow Hearts

I'd call the original Kid Icarus better than both of those games, but I was never too big on the original Metroid.

I have a hard time choosing one, though I have played Kid Icarus through many more times than Metroid, but that's probably because there's only been two KIs and many, many more Metroids.

Kid Icarus ordered! I will have it on launch day (23rd), apparently, thanks to Amazon's 'you get it on launch day' thingee.
(This is a not subtle hint for others to do the same.)

Yeah, I preordered it on Amazon a while ago, especially since they're giving out the 3D Classics code with purchase.
Thought I would have to pick between it and RE:ORC, but the early reports on that one made the choice pretty easy.

While we're on the subject of peer-pressuring people into buying certain games, what say ye, err, all about Heroes of Ruin?

Yep, preordering KIU on amazon as well. ECM's peer pressure may or may not have had anything to do with it (he does something that is sorta the equivalent of "slut shaming" but in video game nerddom: he made fun of me for buying Yakuza Dead Souls on day one but not committing to Masahiro Sakurai... which is an effective argument indeed).

Yes, but you're already sold via the all-star soundtrack.
Heroes of Ruin is, basically, Diablo on 3DS (or, if you prefer, Record of Lodoss War, in that you control you avatar directly instead of rampant mousery).
Sakurai created (or had a large hand in):
*Kirby et al *Smash Bros *Meteos<---freaking love this game
All games that Zig has, no doubt, not played.

I still don't have one. Anything good for it yet? Kid Ikarus looks kind of cool.
