Mario Kart 7 is fun. It also makes me feel good about myself -- I've never failed to get first place, despite being laughably bad at Mario Kart Wii. Is this first place against humans? Or against the CPU?

What I love about Zig is that he makes me feel good about myself after ECM makes fun of me for not playing every shooter in the Genesis catalog, or snickers when I say, like a little child tying his shoe, "that game was made by Data East!" :-)
What is kinda depressing though is that in my experience so far, I come off like "ECM" to about 80% of my coworkers. I've worked with dudes that weren't familiar with Mario games... at all.

I've said this a thousand times (on here, too): most game devs don't play REMOTELY the amount of games as the average denizen of this board. Not even close.
I've also pointed out before that Borsalio is in the top 1% of game devs as far as that goes. I can only think of *one* other guy in all my time 'in the biz' that might eclipse Borsalio, and that's because he plays more imports.

Importing is expensive and takes a lot of effort. Oh, and also the language thing is a bit of an issue. ;D
I've still got some blank spots in my experiences too though. I've barely touched the RTS genre (because I'm terrible at it).
It's very important for devs to at least have played the classics, though. You need to know the history of your medium. It's like trying to go into film without having seen all of the classics there, like Casablanca, Citizen Kane, Gone with the Wind, and Pootie Tang.

"Still out there killing...."
"Just like Pootie Tang..."
Name that film!
(For those that haven't seen Pootie Tang NEVER see Pootie Tang. You can't un-see it.)
As for RTS, it's fair to say that that friend is also deficient in that genre since he's primarily a console gamer, so I guess you can be #2, in my experience, as far as devs go.

I've been very selective with RTS games. I played the original command and conquer quite a bit. Then didn't play any for a long time, then played a lot of the first Warhammer 40k game, and also a tad bit of the Lord of the Rings RTS (which had Tom Bombadil as a hero character, which was AWESOME).

I played some of the old ones (Warcraft 1 and 2, C&C) but right around Starcraft time I lost the ability to be good at them.
I did enjoy Company of Heroes, though. I had a good strategy with the Allies:
1. Build Tanks 2. Send Tanks after the enemy 3. Send more Tanks 4. Go to 1.
It usually worked.

Well-designed, then.
Like Starcraft:
1. Be Korean. 2. Build Zergs. 3. Send Zergs at enemy. 4. Send more Zergs at enemy. 5. Win.

Epic Mickey screens: It does sorta look like COI *but* that may just be the classic Mickey talking.

I think that's what they're going for, at any rate.
Looks amazing to me. Also gives me faith that if Spector ever gets permission to do a Ducktales game like he's been mentioning, it'll also be pretty amazing.

Random Epic Mickey thought: I was kinda miffed in Epic Mickey when the various, past, Mickey game carts didn't include Castle of Illusion, and just the NES and SNES games, considering COI is considered to be the best Mickey game ever.

On Unchained Blades, I'm actually most interested in how a digital full game will work on the eShop. I mean, I guess it won't be an issue since you can just get a really big SD card in there (I think the PSP version was only like 600mb, so it's not too big), but it'll just be weird to see it on the eShop. I hope we see digital releases more often on the eShop, there's a handful of 3DS games already that I'd like to see localized (or in the case of One Piece Unlimited Cruise, just released for the US). Still not sure if I should get Unchained Blades on 3DS or PSP though.
But yeah, lots of dungeon crawlers coming out this year. Unchained Blades, Legend of Grimrock on PC, a likely digital-only release of Class of Heroes 2, and Etrian Odyssey 4 (eventually).

1. Hack Wii. 2. Buy One Piece Unl. Cruise 1 and 2 PAL. 3. Enjoy! (And I gotta say: i really enjoyed both of those games.) As for DC's, I'd *love* to see the Great Battle 3DS game...which we'll never get
