Sly 4 Demo (PS3): I've never been into Sly games and if this one is indicative of the final game I am...concerned. NOt because it isn't fun. It is. When you're Sly. HOWEVER. When you are forced to play as the other two characters, erm, yeah...I really hope it's a 90/5/5 playtime breakdown between Sly, the turtle, and the hippo. (It won't be but that'd really help the non-existant enthusiasm I'm not feeling. Or am feeling. Or however that works.)
Fire Emblem Demo (3DS): demo mania! I gotta say after checking this out, I'm anticipating this more than any other FE to date. The 3D effect is nice; the graphics shame the Wii/GC version; and it's, well, Fire Emblem.
LBP Karting (PS3): two words: floaty fucking controls. OK, that's three, but the middle word is actually just a stand-in for disgust and disappointment.
Balloon Fight (WiiU): yes, it's the NES game. Yes, it looks pretty bleh on a HD TV. But. It's still fun. Really, tho, it's pretty hard to screw up a Joust clone[footnote:1]I know that AH is now desperately looking for info on this game if he hadn't played it before now.[/footnote], tho it pales to the recent Balloon Fight update in Nintendo Land, the most fun you'll have while wishing to Christ the game supported online MP in the year 20123. Also, it's 30 cents, or about the cost of a pay phone call back whe Balloon Fight was new.

Hmm, Sly 2 was really more 50-25-25 between Sly, Bentley, and Murray. I imagine this game will be about the same. It's a very common complaint about the series. It never bothered me to play as the other two, but I understand it. Bentley actually retains a number of "stealth" mechanics, enough that he still feels okay in a stealth-heavy game, but Murray kind of throws it all out the window. But having varied types of gameplay has been in the series since Sly 1, they just had you actually control different characters in Sly 2.
It's still better than Sly 3 though, where you played as Sly, Bentley, and Murray...and Carmelita...and the Guru...and the mouse chick...and the Panda King...and Demitri (actually, Demitri was pretty cool).
As for LBP Karting, the side-scrollers had floaty fucking controls too, so I guess that means Karting fits into the series quite well.

I know, and it drives me (har) even more nuts here, if that's possible. (The controls were so bad in LBP that I can't even be bothered to play the *free* PS+ copy of LBP2.)

Dark Souls - thanks to the included copy I got with the 360 recently I can finally check this out. I had only heard one thing about this game in advance, that it was hard, otherwise I had no idea what it was about to be honest. I haven't made it very far yet but it's enjoyable and more unforgiving then I expected.
Borderlands 2 - I've not played this in co-op yet but I am up to level 25 and I'm slowly working my way through the main story after detouring on a bunch of side stuff. I'm guessing I'm not too far from the end at this point.
EDF2017 - Never hurts to play this a little but I will need to seek out IA now.
Dariusburst Another Chronicle - I've begun to renew my efforts on progressing in Chronicle Mode on this game so I'm trying to knock at least one level out a day(there are over 2000 to "unlock", sort of). Part of it is to unlock new fighters and content, the other is to explore what else they crammed into the game.

I'm through the first proper level of Sly 4, took 2ish hours but I was trying to get every collectible (and I haven't yet). It was about a 40% Sly, 40% Rioichi (Ninja ancestor of Sly who plays fairly similar), 10% Murray and 10% Bentley. I just started the 2nd level (Wild West) so I don't know if that pattern changes yet.

Bladestorm (360) - This is one game I missed playing without a 360 in the house. I'm actually borrowing my brother's copy but still, as far as Dynasty Warriors type games go, this variation is one of my favorites. I know the combat is clunky when you are in personal combat but I still like running around with squads as I lay waste to the French troops (English always have the bigger rewards ). I've been focusing a lot on Swords followed closely by spears although I have been using archers more often than when I had played this game last.

I agree, Bladestorm is most certainly one of the better musou games.
(That said, the game came out in, iirc, 2007--have you been 360-less since then??)

No my 360 died in '10 sometime but I did not know about Bladestorm when it first came out. Found out about it at random when my brother picked it up.
My son got a kick out of the Earthquake attack that one of the mace squads can do, with the bodies flying everywhere.

Metal Gear Rising (PS3): so close to being mind-blowing but, my God, what is with the camera?? Who thought it was a great idea to constantly have enemies blindside you from off-screen without at least a visual cue a split-second before the skull-smashing blow lands? They handle this pretty well a good deal of the time by having mobs hang back while you beat on one, but there is really no way to know when this is going to be the case. (Ninja Gaiden RE has the same issues, but not nearly as bad, which, when you think about it, doesn't reflect well on Platinum.)
The upsides are that it's a silky smooth 60fps, and even with the sacrifice such entails for detail, the game is still very pretty. (The music deserves special note--not only is it good, but it is integrated such that the audio triggers at key moments in a fight are seamless from the over-arching tune.)
As for how it measures up to, say, a Bayonetta, well, it isn't quite in that league, mainly because of the bloody camera issues.
Monster Hunter Ultimate Demo (U & 3DS): I really really wish Capcom had spent some time doing something to the graphics other than basically re-rendering the Wii game at 1080p--I was playing the 3DS rev and, seriously, it might be more fun once you factor in the 3D since the difference in actual quality, minus the resolution gulf, is virtually nil.
That said, some of the new armors sets are quite nice--not too overwrought--and so are the weapons.
Killing giant bear bunnies is fun, but I'd have liked Lagombi to act more like a giant rabbit rather than a bear with big ear things.<--pointless, idiotic, quibble, but that's what I do!
CAN'T WAIT FOR THE FINAL! You slack asses--Josh, Ruben, Jason, Wintery, BK[footnote:1]Who once loved a little game of a very similar stripe![/footnote]--really, really need to get Us and play with us.
Trine 2 Demo (U): I have this on PC, from the Steam XMAS sale, so I won't be buying it on U, but, since I hadn't gotten around to playing it until this demo on U (yeah, yeah, shut up), I have to say it's a lot of fun and yet more proof--as if more was needed--that a good game with a demo is a license to print money, since I'd buy this in a flash if I didn't already have it. (Speaking of which: anyone have this on PC and want to do MP??)
Fist of the Norht Star Ken's Rage 2 (U): this is fun! It's a bit meatier than the run-of-the-mill musou, but there is some HORRIFIC frame rate issues in all SKUs of the game, which really, well, sucks. It improves in teh second half of the game beacuse the levels are either much smaller *or* they are set in buildings which basically eans the same effect, gemoetry-wise, but it's a real shame Koei put so little effort into ironing this glaring, glaring flaw out.
Even then, though, it's quite a bit of fun, but, then, this is a musou, so having 60fps isn't really going to make an appreciable difference in gameplay since, at heart, these games are almost to a man, button-mashers of some sort which, thinking about it for a second, makes it a little weird that there is no arcade versions of these games--jack up the difficulty and pare down the control options (mainly the camera) and you have a quarter-cruncher made to order.

Super Mario 3d land - Resurrected the kid in me. I love the music, controls, environment - everything. The only small problem is that the levels could be longer. I started playing the game this past Thursday and I'm now already starting World 6. Yes, I missed a mega star here and there so there will be replay value of going back to those levels and getting the full-three star badge for those levels. That was a nice touch.
I'm not rating the game yet because there may be something ahead that will cause me to not like the game as much like a horrible ending or something weird like a glitch. What I am saying right now though is that I haven't played a Super Mario bros game like this since Super Mario Bros 3. It's that good. Unless you didn't like Super Mario Bro3. If you didn't, then my comparison won't hold any positive weight.

Super Mario 3D Land is the best 3D Mario, period, and probably the 3rd best Mario platformer of all time, behind SMB3 and SMW.
*waits for Borsalio to show up and say something about SMB2*
(I'm almost 100% certain Borslaio is a SMB2 guy, without even actually knowing it.)

I actually am an SMB2 guy, but I'd still put 3 and World above it (does that mean I'm not an SMB2 guy? I dunno).
But ranking the mainline Mario games is brutally hard, moreso than Zelda, FF, or anything else. World's on top and Sunshine's on bottom, but everything in-between is nigh-impossible to decide.
For the record: I am also a Zelda 2 guy, a Final Fantasy 5 guy, and an original Ys3 guy, but not a Simon's Quest guy.

You're a Zelda 2 guy? ME TOO. I played the heck out of that game as a kid. A few years ago I told someone I liked Zelda 2 and he acted like I just said "hitler was super cool" or something equally as evil or stupid to that. We argued, I mean talked, for a little bit about it and I thought maybe I only liked it because I was a dumb kid. So, I played it again as an adult and guess what? I liked it even better. Final Fantasy 5? Also good. What is Ys3? I liked Simon's Quest, though Castlevania IV is still my favorite. I liked Super Mario 2 as decent platformer, but was never immersed in the game. I played other things while playing that game. Super Mario 1? Nope. I played that to completion and the same goes for Super Mario 3 and Super Mario World. Super Mario 64 was also a good game but I wasn't immersed in that game. Since Super Mario 64, I've had similar experiences with Mario games until Super Mario 3d land.

Ys 3 is the third game in Falcom's, err, Ys series. They're all ARPGs and pretty fun, tho the classic versions pale--except in music--to their myriad remakes. (3 showed up on TGCD, Genesis, and SNES.)
