WiiU: Injustice: Gods Among Us Borsalio is amused because I declared, with utter confidence, that "I'd never play this game." Well, two things happened: 1. The Wii U got no games at all 2. The wife was interested in the story, being a DC fan. So "never" became "buy." It's a super polished experience. I felt the second half of the story was mailed in (yes, I know there is a comic that they are basically lifting from wholesale), but liked the premise. It is a pretty fun experience for a fighting game SP though. Yeah, the Injustice story mode was pretty solid, but it peters out near the end. They could have added another 10 chapters or so, maybe have you control more characters (instead of using Batman twice), but I guess they ran out of time. I think I remember the Mortal Kombat story mode being a lot longer. But still, Injustice managed some cool bits, and is probably one of the cooler DC stories we've gotten since the Timm/Dini days. I'm playing lots of stuff, thanks to the Steam sale and the like. I'll have to write some more impressions eventually. As for SMT4, I like it quite a bit, of course, so instead of getting into that I'll list some complaints! 1. Early on in the game, the only place you can heal (outside of buying items) is at the Barracks. However, sleeping in the Barracks is also how you advance the story most of the time, so I got to the point where I couldn't dick around in Naraku anymore because some of my demons died and I couldn't heal them without advancing the story. 2. Yes, the SA-murai is kind of annoying. Part of me wonders if it's intentional, since there's a lot of weird stuff early on in the story ("literature"), but it's probably just a goofy voice direction. 3. Demons are still dicks when you negotiate with them. I know it's a cornerstone of the SMT series and all, but man, I really like how Persona 1 handled it, since you got some impression of how the negotiation was going. Instead we get "Gimme Life Stone! Gimme Macca! Gimme another Life Stone! Gimme your health! OK THNX BYE"

Agreed: the negotiation mechanic (if you can call it that) is still completely broken. It is completely arbitrary and there are no cues, whatsoever, except for the occasional "the demon is very happy" which pretty much means you already have it in the bag.
(This is one time where the facial animation system of a game like LA Noire would be *amazing*--even if the demon's facial tics were alien to humans, you could still figure out--through repetition--what those expressions meant. Here you're just sorta at the mercy of the whims of a shitty RNG.)

***INCOMING ANNUAL POST FROM A FROZEN GUY UP NORTH***
4 years later and I'm still working on FF13 - Sad, I know. At the end now knocking on the end boss' door but feel this unwavering need to grind, grind, grind my weapons up. This means I'll be yammering the 'X' button for a few more weeks.
My original save file is from April 2010. *SIGH* I just want to be done this game.
I've also blown through everything worth playing on the Wii U except for Rayman (meah). I'm ready for another Metroid. Come on Retro! Dump DK and give me another Prime, baby!
Oh, also finished The Last of Us in a two day marathon. Easily one of the best two days spent in front of my TV ever. Can't wait to get my hands on the DLC. My jaw hurt for a few days after all the teeth clenching. Super stressful game that is an absolute must own if you have a PS3.
I see a few of you nerd rocking the new EDF on PSN. Any good?
Till next year,
Justinzero
P.S. F - YES the Seahawks won the Superbowl (and the Jets... well...)! I was in Seattle last Nov and caught the Tampa game. Really awesome time.

I finished FF13 and quickly moved on to the sequel. I hit the 8 hour mark today and can safely say it's a much better game that the first.
I liked 13 enough to finish it but always felt that the weak delivery on the story kind of killed the whole experience for me. This usually isn't a big deal - games are games, buy a novel if you want a story - but the big focus of the game was its story. It's easy to blame the voice acting on this one but 90% of the script they had was just... well... very literal. FF13 is kind of like a beer with a really bad after taste. It's awesome, it's good but I can't shake feeling kind of "meah" after putting the controller down.
The crappy story and cringe inducing voice acting is still prevalent in the second FF13 however there is a massive emphases on exploration and side quests which go really well with the fantastic battle system from the former game. All in all, a blast to play.
Oh and random battles are back! Wooot
(I know you're all reading this and saying "So what, Dark Souls 2 is out! Man, get with the times!")

Time to dust off this old thread Metroid Other M : There are a lot of people who think this is the worst Metroid ever but if you actually stick with it, it's a solid and fun game. My only complaints are that the health recovery mechanics are awkwardly handled and sometimes the "point at the screen" stuff doesn't work as nicely as it should have. Those two things aside, I enjoyed playing through the game. I reached the "official" end of it that wraps up the main story points, I have no complaints about how they filled out Samus as a character, which is where I guess most people became upset since she was mostly a blank slate; as mentioned on the Game Night call last night, the anti-woman stuff is garbage, she's ex-military and this is all a military operation. They could have went all mushy on that and it is good that they didn't. If you stick to the end, you don't get the sense that I have the Epilogue to complete still, which gives me a chance to go back and finish up the typical item collecting portion of the game. If you have this sitting in your collection and didn't get past the heavy cutscene stuff near the beginning, give it a little more time, it is worth it.

I'm working through the endgame of Final Fantasy X HD on PS3. I don't remember FFX being so short. Feels like I've breezed through the game at a good pace. It is pretty linear, albeit not as bad as FF13.
I found out that the Romancing Saga 1 SFC patch is pretty much done, fulfilling a loooooooong ass dream to finally play the first game in that trilogy. If you haven't played any of them, definitly give 3 a try. It's brutal, open, long and has some really cool music. Oh, and the battle system is so, so, so good. Some of the bosses are pretty tough too. You'll be punching the couch in anger in no time.
