I was thinking of creating a similar topic. In my case i have the "most embarrasing moment ever playing a videogame" moment right at the top of my head. I won't put a spoiler tag, trust me, you will thank me if you haven't play the game. Please keep in mind this moment of the movie...err i mean, game, whenever you see somebody calling this "best game ever" or something along those lines. I can't say this ruined anything, it just confirmed what a gruesome chain of errors MGS4 was:
In one of the many endless cinemas of the game, Mei Ling is briefing everyone about how they will attack the death star, i mean, outer heaven/patriots sea base/whatever that thing was. Then....well, just skip to 4:50 in the following video.
That beats every single moment of Xenosaga ep 1 regarding cringe factor, and by a lot for sure.

Okami Beating the 'last' boss in Okami only to discover that--holy mother of God--you're only *halfway* through the game! People say that Bayonetta is Kamiya's masterpiece, but it just can't compare to the Zelda-rific Okami. |

That was a great touch in Okami, i just wish the game didn't make you run in laps from one point to another so much. A bit shorter and i would like the game even more.

I've been trying to write a review of MGS4 for a while now, pointing out all those wrong moments in the game is not an easy task. The fact that people in the yt comments are, for the most part, ok with that moment certainly doesn't speak well not only about the MGS fanbase, but about the vg community as a whole.

Great topic. It's even more cringe worthy than the ridiculous "mind rape" scene? I'm afraid to even watch now. Ironically, I'd include a part from Xenosaga II on my magnificent moments list (the "lost your best friend" line at the end, for anyone who's played it--could've ended up massively cheesy/lame, but it was built up to and executed absolutely perfectly). |

Chakan the Forever Man (GEN) Perhaps the greatest twist ending in video games ever (though this isn't saying a whole lot).
Upon completing what you think is the task Death's set before you (eliminating all evil in the world to earn your, well, death), Death notes that you didn't read the fine print: the "world" includes the entire universe! Chakan throws his head back and screams as he stares out at the vast void of space, realizing that he must cleanse all the heavens of evil if he is to complete his quest! Bummer! (But super mega awesome!)
A truly worthy ending for a nail's hard action game.

X-Men (GEN) Upon completion of the penultimate level of the original X-Men on Genesis, you are told, by the X-Men's mutant-finding computer Cerebro, that you must "reset the computer" before proceeding.
After desperately searching the screen for some sign as to how to do this, you realize that the only way to reset the 'computer' is to, perhaps!, press the actual reset button on the Genesis itself!
Holding your breath for a pregnant moment, you stab the off-white reset button mounted on the Genesis and are rewarded--with grave trepidation beforehand--with the in-game computer resetting, thus rebooting Cerebro and sending you on to the final level!
Fourth wall-breaking was never this intense!

Sword of Sodan (GEN) Realizing the moment you booted it up that you've made a grave, grave mistake--bonus points if you actually paid $50 for it when it was new after your Amiga-owning friend swore it was awesome. (+100 points if you then went out, bought a sword, and decapitated said friend a la Sodan.)

Come on! I know all of you have these moments! Let's hear 'em! Strider (ARC/GEN/PCE...not so much): ...or it's the defining moment of Strider, occurring early in the second stage, as Strider Hiryu makes a breakneck dash down a steep, ice-encrusted, slope, mines exploding in his wake, the frost in the air nipping at his cypher as the maw of a gaping ravine suddenly rears into view!
Taking it all in stride, he explodes like a robotic tiger into a gravity-defying somersault as the ledge behind bursts into flames, hurling Hiryu out of the frying pan and into the fire!
Whew. Now I need a Peppermint Patty. |

Ok, here goes: Awesome moments:
Where to begin? Well, the mode 7 rotation effects as you, deity incarnate, plummet from the heavens to quite literally not bring peace, but a sword!
But also:
Kasandora, when the people invent music. As you might imagine, this hits me for massive damage! But not so much as this:
There's a bit in there where you are asked to make it rain for the townspeople who are mourning. Genuinely touching.
Getting the MASTER FREAKING SWORD. As a kid, this was HUGE. The master sword was everything! That intro bit is pure awesome, with the aliens terrorizing citizens, and the Xcom showing up on the scene to kick some alien ass! Pretty much every single scene with Salazar is amazing. But here is the best:

Yes, that scene from RE4 is awesome  (I have to say that there are at least a dozen moments, as defined by the OP, that could be pulled from RE4.) Edit: and, yeah, the very first time I saw that scene I was like "hell yeah, you little rat bastard--fucking eat it! I hope it hurts!"...then I realized I was having a flashback while serving food to the homeless at the local shelter. I'm not welcome there anymore. |

Lots of games have the humanoid-boss-that-is-actually-a-huge-monster in them, but I don't recall any of them doing it quite as well as Elemental Master. The combination of music, sound effects, pixely lightning bolt graphics, and staggering uptick in size... I still remember the jawdrop and chills I got. Even if the game itself was dead easy.
