I also see the "don't bite the hand that feeds you" gaming media is completely AWOL on this clusterfuck...surprise?

Apparently Kotaku got one with the HDMI issue which Sony made sure to fix. Due to them having that problem it seems that they are trying to make it seem like that is the primary issue at hand. Those other problems are just "isolated incidents". Much like people losing their health insurance are just isolated incidents.

That was before the general release, tho--now they're basically ignoring the cat 5 shitstorm on Sony's own forums and the ridiculous one-star review percentage on Amazon, where at east a full THIRD of the reviews are ONE star.

Yeah I saw that. Someone shared the link on FB and there were responses that were trying to spin for Sony - either its just the HDMI in their minds or MS fanboys trolling the whole world

Even if it was 'just' the HDMI (it's not), that's a ridiculous response. The machine should WORK, period. NOTHING should be broken out of the box. PERIOD. And certainly not to an unprecedented degree.

LOL Wow, I had no idea it released already. Is the PS4's being defective common?

Well, thus far, it isn't uncommon and it's pretty apparent that it's well outside the bounds of a normal failure rate.
(Normal being ~3% for the first 2-years, at least for gaming hardware.)

BORSALIO'S BOMB-ASS PS4 ADVENTURE
Uh...mine ended up working. I was one of the lucky ones.
Well, there was a bit of a hang-up when I was setting it up. My internet randomly went down (first time it's gone down in this apartment, wonderful timing) during the set-up. If your net is down when the PS4 is trying to configure your internet connection, apparently the response is that it asks you to set up a proxy server(?). I went to check the manual to see what to do, but then I realized the PS4 doesn't come with one. So then I checked the manual on the PS4, but it looks like it doesn't work without an internet connection. Great. But then I noticed the net was down and I fixed it and everything was great.
System is okay so far. I didn't buy a game, so I just have Resogun (fun, but I need to learn it first) and Contrast (a bit janky in that UE3 Game way, but otherwise okay). At some point I'll grab Knack on the cheap and see how it goes.

My PS4 experience was most of the gamers I know buying one, and then me caving to that sweet, sweet peer pressure, trying top get one at work, finding out we did't have one at work, and then not wanting to buy one somewhere where I don't get a discount.

Resogun: a Defender retread. OK, but not nearly worth some of the plaudits it's seeing from gamers who were still a twinkle in their grandparents' eyes when Defender first rolled around and, thus, have never actually played Defender or its countless clones and 'homages'. (I'll say it again: Asteroids, as a template for newer games, is a much better one than Defender, e.g. Geometry Wars (old and new) or Super Stardust HD.)
Contrast: neat idea; terrible, terrible execution. One of the worst, post-N64 cameras I've ever seen in an ostensible 3D semi-platformer. The dozen or so cinemas in the first 10-15 minutes have already put such a bad taste in my mouth that I doubt I'll ever go back. (It's a VIDEO GAME FUCKHEADS, not a movie or a book.)
Blacklight Retribution: garbage--a very poor, broken man's CS w/ shitty, well, everything.
Warframe: it's Warframe which is good, but it is not comparable to the PC rev for a host of reasons: much weaker lighting; lousy controls via gamepad[footnote:1]You can use a mkb, however.[/footnote] (the swiping for special moves...uh, no...); weaker physics effects (particles, etc.); and for some bizarre reason, they have the brightness and contrast *cranked* to inhuman levels. (That said, presumably with a mkb, it's the best of the bunch, but that isn't saying much.)
NOTE: I harp on WF's graphics because, for a nextgen system, this isn't even mid-range PC level.[footnote:2]Enter Josh, Sony Defense Force Private First Class: "But it was rushed!!"[/footnote]
And yes, I got a second PS4 today and the first one has gone back to Amazon.
(Alas, like Matt, I have no 'real' games because I wasn't going to take the chance getting stuck w/ one if this PS4 also bit it...which it hasn't...yet.)

People keep telling me Warframe looks better on PC, and I just sit there with it at minimum settings and 20-30 FPS and cry softly.

If Contrast just let me invert the horizontal axis on the camera, I could probably deal with it. At some point, I got trained to only work with an inverted horizontal axis, so I can't help but swing the camera around wildly without it. Luckily, there's nothing in the game so far that requires quick camera control.
As for the story, well, it's an indie game. It's got stuff to tell you, man.
I find it relatively inoffensive, but then, it was free. I do like the environment art (the character art looks a little too much like someone really liked Bioshock Infinite).
The new console aura is tempting me to pick up a game, but I shall persevere, for now. As soon as I see Knack, Killzone, or Need for Speed under $40 though, I'm there.

I was super excited for Need for Speed for console until; they announced MP was online only, so screw it, I'll wait til it's $3 on Steam now. Racers should never NOT have local MP. That's almost as bad as a fighter not having.
