So I wanted to change the forum descriptions to an unusual, Halloween-themed, language for a bit and I decided that, if i could find one, I'd do R'lyehian which, in case you don't know (and how could you not!), is the 'language' spoken by Cthulhu and the other, dark, ethereal, horrors populating the works of HP Lovecraft.
Now, sure, there is, at best, about one-hundred words in the entire 'language', but I figured that some nerd might have cobbled one together, (alas, no!), filling in the gaping blanks w/ Cthulhian gibberish which, after all, is pretty much what R'lyehian is, with the most famous phrase being:
ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn
Which 'translates' to: never carry a lot of cash when visiting Tijuana. Also: In his house at R'lyeh dead Cthulhu lies dreaming.
I did, however, did find this on Yahoo Questions:
Q: Can someone decipher text or give me a english to Cthulhu dictionary? or maybe give me a site that does it
A: I don't think you will be able to find a free website that will translate such an obscure language, you will probably end up having to pay for a translation.
In case I wasn't clear, R'lyehian (like Klingon, Tolkien Elvish and Canadian people) is fictional. Yet, the person responding to this query seems to treat it as an honest-to-God language when, really, there's maybe 100 words total in the entire vocabulary, as taken from HPL's works.
And while I don't know the age/nationality/etc. of the person providing the A, I am 95% certain he's white, Anglo, morbidly obese, and titanically stupid--also: a future candidate for public office.
In the end, I went with Gaelic or, more familiarly, Irish (my Mom knew it and she called it Gaelic), which if you've ever heard it spoken, sounds a lot like Cthulhu minus the guttural, phlegmy sounds. Mostly. Until the drink starts flowing. Then Cthulhu sounds like poetry.
