Curious about the best DS RPGs, that are not:
Dragon Quest Final Fantasies
Other than that, please list what you think are the best RPGs for the DS system, since these are probably very cheap to get now.

Does this include all RPGs? Or just what is generally considered a JRPG? (Meaning: no ARPGs, no SRPGs, no anti-tank RPGs, etc.)

let's rule out SRPGs. I like those, but that's not what I'm in the mood for!

*whines* But Rooooob, SRPGs are the best kind of RPG...*stamps feet and spins in circle*
Anyway, in no order (not even alphabetical, because that's how I...well, you know):
*Mario Luigi et al *Magical Starsign *Radiant Historia *Not Chrono Trigger *Children of Mana (ARPG/sorta Roguelike.) *Etrian Anything (Dungeon crawler.) *Fighting Fantasy: The Warlock of Firetop Mountain (Basically Hexen on DS w/ lite RPG elements.) *Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light (Surprisngly fun *if* you can get past its intentional old school-ness.)[footnote:1]The only thing this really has to do w/ Final Fantasy is marketing.[/footnote] *Golden Sun: Dark Dawn (This would be amazing if it wasn't the easiest RPG released in a decade--still fun, tho.) *Lufia: Curse of the Sinistrals (Awesome *but* you can tell the DS is barely able to handle it.) *Pokemon (Can't really go wrong here, but I wonder if this isn't in its own genre now.) *Rune Factory (Not sure these count, but they're, somewhat, ARPGs and pretty much all are good.) *Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey (Pure awesome: basically Etrian Odyssey in the MegaTenVerse.)
I left out the pure Roguelikes like Izuna and Shiren et al and any games you'd need to patch into English to enjoy, e.g. Soma Bringer (which is awesome).

I own The World Ends With You. And I'm told from most quarters that it is awesome.
I haven't been able to get into it, but as I said somewhere else on this board KOG + touchscreen = suckage.
So not only am I the LAST person on this board who could recommend and RPG (mostly don't like 'em), but you're asking about a system I seem to have some sort of innate biological antipathy for.
But I'm passing along the word-of-mouth awesomeness that TWEWY is supposed to be.

Chrono Trigger...it's awesomeness is higher than ice cream cake (hey, I'm not fatty, but I do gorge myself on ice cream cake for my birthday. Don't look at me like that! It's only once a year...) Golden Sun: Dark Dawn, as ECM mentioned. Great game. The 4 heroes of light is a good game honestly. The only bad thing about it is the art design. It's like a Precious Moments rpg. If you can get past the look, the game is actually good and worth your time not because of the story, which is bland, but the gameplay is good. Since you said don't mention final fantasies, I uh, am out of titles to mention because ECM listed all of the other ones I was going to mention.

I"m w/ KoG on The World Ends With You and I, generally, don't mind the touchscreen, so it isn't that (for me, anyway). That's why I didn't list it.

Considering that RPGs are only an occasional indulgence for me, TWEWY reads on paper like I should totally dig it. But I'm just finding the dual screen/touch screen combat totally unworkable.
I used to paint models (kits not women) professionally, so I have better-than-average manual dexterity, but playing touch screen games like TWEWY (or the current Mushi Bug Panic) make me look like a retarded flipper-baby.

As someone who is not a big fan of touch-screen gameplay i can say that TWEWY has a very smooth gameplay. It might take some time at the beginning to get use to it, but once you got it there won't be any problem.

I have problems with other touchscreen games across multiple platforms. I think I have thin field generated over my fingers that prevents good contact.
Maybe I can commit crimes and not leave readable fingerprints.

Well, in TWEWY, you'd use the stylus, so it probably isn't your magical, ID-proof, lack of fingerprints in that case

Yes. I use a stylus on a DS... WHEN one can actually be found in the kid-organised chaos that is our portables 'bin'. I keep track of the console stuff, but do so little with handhelds that THEY are responsible for Gameboys et al.
I hold the stylus pretty well down near the end. My fingers don't actually brush the surface, but I'm guessing my magic extends past those fractions of an inch.
I have no idea why I'm even continuing down this road. I just don't do well with touchscreens regardless of magical/biological/xenobiological reasons.
