1. Yes, if you hack your Wii *and* you have a monitor/TV that will accept 576i for the *rare* games that only offer this form of output.
2. You need to hack your Wii.
Here's all you need: gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=207126
Now, fair warning: I hacked my Wii waaaaay back when it was a relatively dangerous proposition, w/ the potential for bricking being fairly high (hey, I like imports/fast loading! What's a man to do??) so I have no experience w/ these new-fangled, allegedly dead-easy, methods that require little more than answering a list of questions and the alchemy is performed for you. So, in other words, though I know lots of people that have used this w/o problems I, personally, have no experience with it. So, um, if you break your Wii, I am pre-emptively absolving myself of all culpability, caveat emptor, De Vermis Mysteriis, Klaatu barada nikto, cy-assus.
Plesae note: there was no gratuitous fei joke in the preceding post, such as "it's so easy, even fei managed to do it" or "you sorta need to do it because even fei did it", or "even gamers that don't import games, ever--like fei--have done it, so it's safe and you kinda have to do it" etc. Nope, no jokes at all. Cause I'm just not that kind of guy. That would try to push a good friend over the edge. After a pleasant Saturday with his daughter. Bookended by email harassment/jokes at his expense. Nope, not gonna do it...
Addendum: GBATemp is the proverbial wretched hive of scum and villainy, as elucidated by that great philsopher and arm dismemberer, Obi-wan Kenobi. In other words, it's pirate central and it's full of people trying to justify their piratical behavior as not being piratical because, um, someting about 'the man' and it isn't theft because no physical copy is being pilfered (my God, how I love that one!), etc. (And, no, you can't find burned games there, but they are all for it and they will help enable you to do it so, for fei's (and others that frequent this board like, say, me!) sake: don't become a pirate!
Addendum to the addendum: the above was not meant to be a message only to Zig who would, in all likelihood, sooner becomefei a non-gamer before pirating, but just a general plea to not use these tools for evil!
