I saw this thread on another board and I thought it was an interesting question (probably mainly because nobody on that thread went past the NES and it made me feel yet older, <heavy sigh>).
Anyway, it's very hazy now (dim mists of time and all) but I *think* the first game I ever completed was Adventure on the Atari 2600. If it wasn't that (and it almost certainly was since I did beat it and it predated the other two I *know* I finished) it was probably Raiders of the Lost Ark, again on 2600.
Marvel at the games we played shortly after the introduction of the auto gyro! Despair at the ferocity of the fearsome 'duck'! Thank God you were born after 1980!

I actually count Pitfall!. I know; it was a game that looped. However, I surpassed 20,000 points, had my mom take a picture of the TV (a primitive screenshot) and sent it into Activision to secure my membership in the Activision Explorer's Club. It was a milestone for young CHI.
I wish I still had that patch and the letter they sent.
Other that that, Adventure was probably the first game I completed.

Speaking of looped games, I was on vacation once in Maine, and I managed to roll over the score in 2600 Asteroids 7x...would have kept going, but my Mom decided that was way, way, way more than enough.

I don't remember which game it was exactly, but Donkey Kong on the Intellivision was one of my first triumphs. I also fondly remember beating Star Strike for the first time. You had to drop a little bomb into a series of holes (Which are actually little ships, but who's counting) which saved the earth.
It was all very Death Star Run.

I feel so young, hahaha. The first game I ever completed was Zone of the Enders on the PS2.
It blew me away, needless to say.

It is really hard for me to remember, but it was something on the NES. Probably either Contra, Zelda, or the like.

Speaking of ZOE, I hope the new HD ports include the Special Edition that NA missed out on.
@rob, I recently seen an ad for Super C in a Ghost Rider comic and had a good laugh.

Super C wasn't the first game I beat of course, but it was a game I beat. I remember playing the crap out of that thing on this tiny ass color TV, the very first TV my parents allowed in my bedroom, and the first time they actually allowed me to have my NES in my room (aka, when they decided to trust that it wouldn't make my grades plummet).

I don't know whether to mock you or hunt you down, cage you, and vivisect you in the name of science, since I thought it was impossible for someone in my age cohort to have *not* finished SMB. Were you a Master System guy? (This is basically the only scenario where I can see that this would be possible...and then, only tenuously.) Failing that, we could always just put you in a museum: "Behold, the last man on Earth, from Gen X, that hasn't completed Super Mario Bros."
This kinda reminds me of the abject horror I experienced when I found out Dave Halverson (E. Storm of GF fame/infamy) had literally started playing games at 16-bit, i.e. he never played *anything* prior to Genesis. Granted, you aren't quite at that stupefying level, but it seems you have a mission to complete!

It's amazing they got away w/ that for as long as they did. (And, man, I don't even wanna know what you thought of the settlement.)

Are you kidding me?
The game takes 5 minutes to finish! Your next post better bring news of grand Mario conquering.

I can't beat the level after 1-2. I'm balls terrible at Mario. So it's decided: a steel cage deathmatch of SMB between Zig and Smithee, and only one will walk away!
