Sooo, I got one of these new-fangled XBOX One contraptions (thanks Mariangela, for the k-k-killer gift!*) and, while I wasn't expecting much--as my experience with the PS4 having been, to date, less than stellar--I am delighted to report that I am *loving* Killer Instinct.
Somehow the clown show at Double Helix** (now part of the Amazon empire) managed to put out a game that is every bit as good as a I recall KI1 being back in the halcyon days of 1994, when men were, well, still geeks, but geeks who went to arcades to test our, uh, 'virility', mano-a-mano, four-bits at a time.
I currently mostly suck at it, having 'retired' from fighting games several years ago (around the time of Guilty Gear X on Dreamcast***), but I will have hands on an arcade stick by middle of the week whereupon I expect to...suck slightly less.
So yeah, so far, this is the best game I've played on the PS4/XB1, which is more than a little disturbing on a variety of levels, if only because I had chugged several gallons of XB1 Hatorade about a year ago, but, while MS does still suck on virtually every objective (and most subjective) criteria, they got this game right.
(I also got this Titan Fall thingee some of you may have heard about, but I have no intention of getting back into the FPS 'business', even though I *loved* Goldeneye on Wii.)
*Hot, buys me games, *and* is probably the best multi-disciplinary cook I've ever known? Blame Canada...or Italy...but mostly Canada.
**An amalgam of Shiny Entertainment (of Earthworm Jim fame) and The Collective (of, err, Buffy the game fame??).
***I dabbled, of course, but none of them meant anything to me...except some torrid nights with Virtua Fighter 4/5 (c'mon, I'm not made of iron...but I am faster than lightning).
