Yeah so this is my concern at the moment. Getting rid of my "beer belly" of sorts. It's not huge or anything but what is really effective at toning this area? Just a lot of sit-ups combined with the proper diet? Or something else?

1. Diet. 2. Deadlifts and squats. 3. Diet.

Interesting: this post has 20 views or so as of me posting this, which means that most (all?) of you are interested in this and actually believed there was some magic bullet to get there.
Lemme set you all straight right now: THERE IS NO MAGIC BULLET.
Now, I know on some level, you all understood this, and yet...you still held out hope, didn't you, that I'd have some sort of super secret fitness guy trick to get there.
So, no, sorry: it's going to require at least some effort above and beyond crunches (spot reduction is a myth...still).
That said, as long as you aren't more than, say, 20lbs. overweight, the quickest/easiest way to trim down your mid-section (and if you're male--very important!) is to simply stop eating as much carbs as possible, be it beer, bread, soda, pasta, rice, etc. If you eat tons of these things *regularly* cut two or three of them--if you're like most guys, your 'beer gut' will diminish rapidly (on the order of 6-8 weeks).
If yoúre more than 20lbs., well:
*Diet. *Squats/deadlifts. *Diet.
The same goes for those of you that want to lose the gut AND tone your mid-section (read: build the muscles, i.e. get a six-pack).

Yeah I know there is no magic bullet as if there were, everyone would do it. I expect some work out of it. Just wondering what is more effective methods than others so as to not waste my time. But time and resources are limited for what I can do (no real opportunity at the moment to visit the gym) The carbs thing is great advice, thank you. I think most of my diet is along those lines with rice, cereals, pasta, etc. Trying to figure out what to eat that isn't just a bunch of salad is the challenge I don't have a huge gut or anything but I want what I have toned into something that is well...toned.

You don't have to cut *everything*, just cut two of the biggest ones. And if that's an issue, start by just cutting your serving sizes in half and then slowly reduce from there.
As for fitness, you can do some things at home like pistols (not ideal, but they'll help):
They are *hard*, but you can ease into them by using a support.
