Making the rounds of the boards/sites today, I'm seeing some insane love for Sega All-Star Racing 2 which strikes me as...ridiculous? Have we come to the point where the announcement of a Mario Kart clone[footnote:1]Don't start with me--it is.[/footnote] is cause for raucous celebration??? Jesus, I don't even know this hobby[footnote:2]Which is probalby part of the problem: I see it as a hobby, and other people see it as their lifeblood.[/footnote] anymore.

If this were anywhere between 1991 to 2001, back when Sega was on fire, I'd be celebrating in the streets too. I hope they include Adam (repping for Streets of Rage) and bike-riding granny (from Yakuza 3).

I dunno: I tend to think this is a symptom of how far SEGA has fallen that people are *celebrating* a kart racing game as some huge event.
I was the biggest SEGA fanboy in the history of SEGA fanboys 'back in the day' (the day=until about a year after the DC's death) but even I couldn't 'sell' Sonic R to myself as anything other than a hackneyed riff on Mario Kart. (Granted, All-Star racing is waaaaaaaaaay better than Sonic R, but I think you get my point.)

I've only played the arcade version of the game but I wasn't all that impressed. It was an ok game.

Thins Sega could do that i would gladly celebrate:
-Remake/sequel to Burning Rangers -New Shining Force/remake all the chapters from the third game -Localize Yakuza Kenzan -New Panzer Dragoon (not for the fucking kinect please)
Then we could talk about something worth getting excited.

I think we can all agree that we'd love to see the old Sega back - one that boldly tries out new ideas and concepts, that takes the path of innovation over what is safe. But we also all know that isn't the case right now and may not be for a long time.
At the very least if you are in Japan then it's ok to be a Sega fan as their arcade division still churns out some unique titles over there. While I would prefer Border Break over MaiMai (mech combat over a touchscreen music game) word is that MaiMai is coming out West and it's a bit different than what else is out there. So at least there is that. I have little hope for their home divisions though, this game shows the first of the Sonic games they will be focusing on more of now.

Yeah, it's going to be Sonic-mania from now until they finally get sold off by Sammy as a lost cause.

I'd almost call it a Diddy Kong Racing clone at this point (of course, that was very inspired by Mario Kart anyway), but yeah, I'm excited for it. I don't deny it's a clone, and nobody should, but it can still be a fun game (and as an oldschool Sega fan, it's one of the few bones they will throw us).
I thought the first one was great, and it offered a better single-player experience than Mario Kart Wii did. If this one's fun, I'll get it too. Adding Toejam and Earl would help.

I have to disagree that this is, in some way, a "bone". An actual bone would be a new SOR/Panzer/Shining Force SRPG, etc. Getting a sequel to a kart racer--no matter the amount of fan service--is, well, it's nothing, really.
It's just another SEGA racing game, and this one from Sumo and not even (what's left of) SEGA's decimated internal teams. Yawn. Wake me when they finally pull the plug on this turnip.
(I'd be a great deal more forgiving if the market wasn't already saturated with racing games. But it is. Enough is enough.)
Note: first person that says it's a kart racing game and not a racing game gets struck with a hammer.

Eh, I'll take a racing game over another attempt at chasing the CoD Dragon (not that such a game would have anything to do with Sonic or Sega All Stars...or maybe it should?) Especially considering how much I enjoyed the first one.
As far as the bone throwing goes, it's kind of an interesting thought. Just because Ryo or Vyse are in this game or Parappa is in Sony Smash Bros doesn't mean we'll ever see new entries in those franchises. But, on the other hand, isn't it better to see them show up at all instead of being lost to time? I mean, it's just nostalgia bait, but it's cool to see the Bonanza Bros or Opa Opa all pretty and rendered in 3D (not Alex Kidd, though. He didn't clean up well. Nor did Ristar in his cameo).

Honestly, I'm in the camp that says if you're not going to do it properly, don't do it so, yeah, fan service isn't really my thing. (NOW GIVE ME ANOTHER FUCKING RISTAR.)
Also: I liked the first one, but do I really want this in lieu of almost anything else from SEGA's back catalogue? No.

Based on the interviews, Sega is positioning this as their big Sonic title for the holidays. So you're getting this instead of, say, Sonic Generations 2. Don't know if that changes your tune, or just drives the dagger that much deeper.
At least Sega's doing some more retro releases these days. Jet Set Radio HD and English Monster World 4 are pretty nice.

So, rumor on the web is that Sega pulled the plug on Bayonetta 2. Again, just a rumor, Hideki Kamiya seems to be dismissing this in his twitter account so far, but if it's true that they cancelled that game all i can say is:
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-

I highly doubt this since Bayonetta has been one of their only bright spots, sales-wise, for the HD generation. Hell it's been one of their only bright spots not named Sonic.
(Most of their money, the last several years, has been made on DS/Wii.)
